Marlene and Berit on Skylge
Also this time the Rökefloose was at the YLS (Youth Leader Seminar) 2007 on the island of Skylge at our friends and hosts from the Westfrisian minority. The seminar was from the 16th – 21st of October and we (Marlene and Berit) where two of 73 people from 17 different European countries. This years theme was: `Minority = / ≠ Island`. Hence we got a lot to know about the Westfrisian language and their work with the tourism, school (trilingual) and the actual media situation. The Westfrisians achieved to build a good structure, which we other European minorities could learn from. However they are of course not satisfied and want more, who doesn’t want more? Of course we also had the possibility to see the island of Skylge. Even though there is a slight resemblance with our Northfrisian islands is it still not the same.. From the Westfrisian culture we did taste local specialities like cheese, cranberries and liquor as well as learning the Westfrisian folklore and the modern “Jump-Style”. Furthermore the new structuring of the YEN (Youth European Nationalities) was one of the focus points. Therefore we discussed with others about the organisation development, the introduction of the working groups and as well how the YEN-board could become closer to the different organisations.
